Tables by Hayamacabinetmakers.com....
Custom cabinets made in Japan and delivered throughout the world.

Table – cherry, 18W x 30H x 12D. I made the first of these tables about 25 years ago and it remains one of the most asked-for Hayama Cabinetmakers pieces. The design and construction are very simple, though the table is quite strong and will easily support the weight of a person standing on the top. The design echoes Japanese construction techniques from the late Kamakura Period (1192 – 1333 CE). The dimensions can be adjusted to suit a variety of uses: add a drawer under the top shelf (night table); add side and back rails between each shelf (bookcase); build it taller (étagère), or chop it up into little pieces (expensive kindling)…just kidding!

Side Table - Wenge slab top, mahogany base, 56W x 30H x 18D. Wenge is native to eastern Africa. The sapwood is yellow-white while the heart wood is a deep chocolate brown with fine straight grain. The leg and rail arrangement is adapted from temple architecture. The lower rail is not required structurally, but adds balance.

Tea Table – mahogany, 50W x 38D x 14H. Seats 4 people nicely, or six if you’re all getting along well….The top is glued up but could be made from a single board cut through and through.

Dining Table – cherry, 54W x 38D x 30H. This is an example of a floating top table. The top is attached to rails by means of sliding dovetails. No glue is used in this joinery.

Side Table A - Cocobolo slab top, mahogany base. 54W x 30H x 18D. The cocobolo comes from Brazil and is air dried. Lots of useful places for this table: foyer, dining room or try it behind a sofa used as a room divider. The top is almost 2 inches thick so the base is left open.

Side Table B - Cocobolo slab top, mahogany base. 54W x 30H x 18D. The cocobolo comes from Brazil and is air dried. Lots of useful places for this table: foyer, dining room or try it behind a sofa used as a room divider. The top is almost 2 inches thick so the base is left open.

Table for the genkan (entryway of a house). The top is a slab of Indonesian walnut, the base is mahogany. 73x33x16 (LxHxD). This is one of a series of "floating top" tables. The slab is ripped along it's length and joined to the base by means of sliding dovetails mounted on supports hidden behind the upper rails. It can be made without the small gap between the two sections of the top.
